4 Advantages of Gummy Bear Implants

When most women think about their options for breast implants, they think about silicone or saline. These traditional implants are typically smooth and round, and have faithfully delivered lovely breast augmentation results for decades.
However, a new contender, commonly known as the gummy bear implant, has entered the breast augmentation ring. These implants are made of a highly cohesive silicone gel that’s firm yet yielding, just like the gummy bear candies that gave the implants their nickname. Here’s a closer look at some of the top advantages that gummy bear implants have to offer.

1. Anatomically Shaped

Unlike round silicone gel or saline implants, gummy bear implants have a unique teardrop shape that’s designed to mimic the contours of the natural breast. Instead of being completely round, gummy bear implants are shaped to taper gently at the top with a fuller, rounded bottom. Their distinct shape has earned them the nickname “teardrop” implants.
This shape mirrors the natural fall of the breast, making these implants an excellent option for women seeking natural looking breast augmentation. While some women may prefer the upper pole fullness that round implants can create, gummy bear implants remain one of the best ways to add volume to your breasts in a more subtle fashion. The cohesive silicone gel will also hold its shape if the implant is compromised, much in the same way that a gummy bear doesn’t leak its contents if it gets cut in half. This helps ensure maximum implant safety while maintaining the shape of the implant long-term.

2. Natural Implant Texture

Gummy bear implants can provide a superior alternative to traditional implants in more ways than just their shape. A common concern for many breast augmentation patients is how their breasts will feel after they get breast implants. The highly cohesive silicone gel filling of gummy bear implants was intended to imitate the texture of natural breast tissue as closely as possible.
Many women feel that augmentation with gummy bear implants may be the best way to achieve fuller breasts that feel like the real thing. This makes gummy bear implants a particularly good option for women with naturally small breasts who don’t have much natural tissue to cover a standard breast implant, as well as excellent for use in breast reconstruction.

3. Decreased Rotation

Unlike when round breast implants are used in breast augmentation, implant rotation of anatomical implants can cause the breasts to appear oddly shaped. Because gummy bear implants are only available in a teardrop profile, it’s important to ensure they remain in their proper placement for the best results.
To this end, gummy bear implants have a textured surface that allows breast tissue to “grab” the surface of the implant, resulting there being almost no chance of shifting while inside the breast pocket. Instead, these implants should remain exactly in their intended position for the long-term.

4. Minimize Capsular Contracture

Capsular contracture is one of the most common breast implant complications, even if overall incidence of the complication is comparatively rare. The condition results from a hardening of the scar tissue that naturally forms around breast implants, and while capsular contracture can be corrected with implant revision, preventing its development in the first place is certainly the preferred course of action.
In addition to preventing rotation, the textured surface of gummy bear implants encourages breast tissue and cell growth to merge with the implant shell, which may reduce incidence of capsular contracture after breast augmentation.
